The normal set-up when fishing for Giant Bluefin Tuna is an 80lb. or 130lb. out-fit spooled with 130 or 200lb. test Dacron. A 200' length of 200lb. mono is then spliced into the Dacron. A snap swivel is crimped or a hook is tied at the end of the mono. Our Bluefin Top Shots make putting the 200' of mono on the reel as easy as a loop-to-loop connection. Some mates splice the mono into the Dacron for a length of 8', adding a series of half-hitches, finishing it off with waxed rigging twine at several points along the splice. Although affective, this method is quite time consuming and the end product is very cumbersome, which doesn't travel through the guides very well. Our Top Shots prevent all of this time consuming work and provide a solution without long sections of half-hitches to hang up on the guides.All that is needed is a standard loop splice in the Dacron on the reel. Instructions for making these loops can be found with the needles supplied with Cortland Dacron or in most good knot tying books. The Top Shot comes with a Wind-On splice at one end of the mono which allows them to be connected in a loop-to-loop fashion. This loop-to-loop connection also makes changing Top Shots a quick and easy process whenever the need arises. Bluefin Top Shots can also be ordered with a Wind-On splice on both ends for those of you that want to use a Wind-On leader at the terminal end in place of a snap swivel and long leaders.
